What is the Solomon Teams?

The Solomon Teams is an extended team event. Teams play approximately one match per month against other teams in their flight. The event, played every year from September to May since the 1960s, honors one of the all-time Philadelphia bridge greats, Charles Solomon. It follows a double elimination format, is ACBL sanctioned, and awards sectionally-rated masterpoints.

Play Matches in your Home or at Local Clubs

One special thing about the Solomon Teams is that teams are encouraged to play matches in their homes, even hosting a light meal or dessert before the game. While the play and competition are serious, this venue fosters a friendly atmosphere. Arrangements can be made at local clubs, though, when home games do not work. This year, designated “Solomon Nights” at local clubs will also be arranged, when teams can complete their unplayed match for the month at a pre-arranged club site.

Features of this year’s Solomon Teams:

  • Open to 4-, 5-, or 6-person teams.

  • Double Elimination Format: Every team is guaranteed at least two matches.

  • Teams will be flighted (flights may be modified depending on number of entries):

    • Flight A - open to any players

    • Flight B - open to players with 0-3000 masterpoints

    • Flight C - open to non-life masters with 0-750 masterpoints

  • An individual may be on only one team within a flight, but can play on a second team in another flight if qualified.
